Dear Colleagues:
As we approach the final quarter of 2003 and ready ourselves for 2004, we recall the purchasing news of the past year and the efforts of ISHP.

ISHP reaches out to build awareness of Purchasing Professionals in our industry. As a member of ISHP you benefit from these efforts. Listed below are specific examples of what your membership supports.

  • ISHP sponsors approximately 6 articles annually about purchasing in Hotel Business Magazine. These generic articles, written by members of ISHP, address key reasons to use a purchasing professional and aspects of purchasing that are important to owners, operators, and developers.
  • ISHP sponsors panel discussions and educational seminars at trade shows about purchasing. Again, these are generic for the purpose of advancing the concept of professional purchasing services. The next panel discussion will be at the New York Show on Saturday, 11/8/03. The topic is "How to Hire a Purchasing Agent".
  • The ISHP’s website is available to hotel owners, operators, and developers, www.ishp.org. It lists all members and states our standards and code of ethics. If you haven’t looked at it recently, take a look.
  • The ISHP website Resources tab has product standards for fabric, lighting, vinyl wallcovering, and linen. More to come. Great research tool for you.
  • ISHP is a strong supporter of charity work. We specifically raise money to support Camp Pacific Heartland, www.hollywoodheart.org, and arrange for product donations through Gifts in Kind, www.giftsinkind.org. Earlier this year, the board of ISHP presented Lisa Cavanaugh, the director of Camp Pacific Heartland, with a check for $89,400.00. We hope to top that his year through donations gathered at our fundraiser Cocktail Party in New York on Friday, 11/7/03, at The Roosevelt Hotel.

Your membership dollars help to support our programs to build awareness, provide an industry platform for charitable donations, and provide useful educational tools for purchasers and owners around the country.
